Consider the deceptively named GOSAFE Act of 2023, led by US Senators Martin Heinrich and Angus King.
Everytown for Gun Safety, backed by American oligarch Michael Bloomberg, is calling the so-called GOSAFE Act “innovative legislation” to regulate so-called “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines. The real innovation here is their audacity to push for sweeping gun bans. Defying the Supreme Court’s clarity on Second Amendment rights.
The GOSAFE Act goes beyond your typical “assault weapons” ban. Forget about the AK-47; now, they’re targeting the beloved AR-15. Despite being one of America’s most popular firearms, anti-gun extremists label it a “weapon of war,” marketed to the so-called “angry and unstable.” But guess what? 1 in 20 U.S. adults owns at least one AR-15. There are already around 20 million of them in circulation.

And here’s the kicker—despite their popularity, AR-15s are rarely used in homicides, according to FBI stats. Knives and even hands and feet are more commonly involved in murders. The overwhelming majority of responsible AR-15 owners use them for legitimate purposes, especially self-defense. Yet, the GOSAFE Act aims to vilify and ban them. So why go after our Second Amendment rights?
And unlike previous attempts, this bill takes an “innovative” approach, straight-up banning “gas-operated semi-automatic firearms” as a class. It also goes after magazines with a capacity of 11 rounds or more and throws in vague language about parts or accessories that could make a gun “banned.” It’s a confusing mess that gives the government (ATF, specifically) unprecedented power over what guns can be sold and even marketed to civilians.
The GOSAFE Act doesn’t stop there. It lets gun-control activists file lawsuits to have court decrees ban even government-approved firearms. And if you thought that was wild, it suggests repurposing federal grants meant for law enforcement into bribes for Americans to surrender their newly banned guns to the government. A direct violation of our Second Amendment.
In a nutshell, this “innovative” gun-control approach is just another ploy to strip Americans of their firearms and punish law-abiding citizens. It’s time to expose their true agenda and fight back against this outrageous assault on our Second Amendment rights!
