Illegal Migrants Get Special Treatment Not Americans

Last week in New York City, a 95 year old Korean War veteran named Frank Tammaro was informed by the senior living facility which he called home would soon be closing to become a shelter for illegal migrants. In a social media post protesting the deal between City Hall and the owner of the facility. Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis of Staten Island called the deal “absolutely shameful.” Malliotakis asked: “Where is the compassion for our elderly who built our community & paid taxes their whole lives?”

Sadly, incidents such as these have become an all-too-familiar feature of American life. Thanks to the federal government’s open border policy which has cost local and state governments billions of dollars every year.

New York City’s Mayor Eric Adams estimates the cost of the migrant influx will reach $2.8 billion. Yet as billions are being lavished on illegal migrants, American patriots like Frank Tammaro are having their lives upended.

Still worse, according to the illegal immigration watchdog. Federation for American Immigration Reform or FAIR, “Illegal immigration costs each American taxpayer $1,156 per year ($957 after factoring in taxes paid by illegal aliens).” Meanwhile, according to figures released by FAIR, every illegal alien or U.S.-born child of illegal aliens “costs the U.S. $8,776 annually.”

What’s the exact cost?

Not surprisingly, states directly north of the US-Mexico border are also bearing tremendous costs. According to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, “…the minimum estimated costs for services Texas provides to unlawfully present and undocumented aliens, taxpayers are shelling out an estimated $855 million every year.”

All this while America’s infrastructure and schools are in a state of disrepair. Consider a study by the respected Century Foundation. Which found that American schools are underfunded by “$150 billion annually, robbing more than 30 million school children of the resources they need to succeed in the classroom.”

As federal and state governments pour resources into supporting illegal migrants, millions of American families are going hungry.  Between 2021 and 2023, an estimated 15.3 million Americans fell below the poverty line. An increase that Sharon Parrott, president of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, calls “stunning.” And, according to numbers released by the US Census, nearly 40 million Americans  now live in poverty.
